After working with children and young people for over 16 years I decided to continue my professional development and train to become a counsellor with the ambition of opening up my own practice in a safe and secure environment where young people can feel free to express their thoughts and emotions and work on, with support from myself managing and finding solutions.
I work in a creative way, using resources and tools to support the young person to feel relaxed and safe enough to explore their challenges.
I work on the theory that children and young people deserve the same respect and emotional intelligence as an adult and feel it is vital that their feelings are heard and not dismissed. What can seem menial to us often is very important to the young person.
As a parent myself, with ages ranging from 9 months to 19 I recognise the struggles and emotional strain it is to see your child struggling and trying to navigate life, often dismissing and fighting against everything you do or say to help. Receiving the support from an independent person can often be hard, however sometimes being too close can be even harder for the young person to be really honest about how they are feeling.
